Paul Graham on Broken App Store Approval Process

The software business learned that in the early 1980s, when companies like VisiCorp showed that although the words "software" and "publisher" fit together, the underlying concepts don't. Software isn't like music or books. It's too complicated for a third party to act as an intermediary between developer and user. And yet that's what Apple is trying to be with the App Store: a software publisher. And a particularly overreaching one at that, with fussy tastes and a rigidly enforced house style.

A very interesting take on the Apple App Store approval process, by Paul Graham. You should stop whatever you are doing right now and go read the whole thing.

Snow Leopard's Mouth

I was doing regular skimming with NetNewsWire, then I saw this DF link. Clicked it, and the site says:

The blood on the signature snow leopard's mouth, except for in the wallpaper
I was like, really? Then I went and compared snow leopard (the animal) from the wallpaper with the one in apple.com website. I took screenshots:

See the difference? There's blood in the mouth of snow leopard from the wallpaper. Awesome!

I'm Feeling Snowy

My Snow Leopard package has finally arrived.

It's a small, no box package. Quite minimalist, compared to the boxed retail box (and cheaper too).

Dr. Eric Schmidt Resigns from Apple’s Board of Directors

Unfortunately, as Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished

Wow. So, Chrome OS is not entirely a joke then.

iTablet - The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs

Anyway, just like Orpheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to the world, my gift to the world is iTablet -- a device that incorporates not just chips and software, but magic. Special secret powers from Mount Olympus, stuff that turns you into a kind of man-god, a semi-divine being with a magic tablet so light that you can't even feel it in your backpack or briefcase but with the ability to connect you to the Internet and enable you to buy anything you want as long as it comes from Apple. In other words, you're a superhero. With super powers. All this for only $899!

This piece from Fake Steve Jobs just made me want the mythical iTablet, seriously.
